I OFFICIALLY FAIL!

Just so the world knows, my computer went to the crapper, and this new computer hates my flash drive and won't recognize it and...

I'M A WHOPPING 9,000 WORDS BEHIND!

Alright. I'm sorry. You didn't deserve that. But it sucks because my flash drive is right here in my pocket and I can't work on my novel because this dumb old computer won't read it. The light flickers on it for a bit, then goes completely dark...

I want to catch up so badly, but this whole computer deal is really taking a hit on me. I don't know what to do...

  1. You don't fail, your computer fails!

If you know what your wordcount was, and you continue the book on the new computer, you can just add the two numbers together. When it comes time to validate just copy/paste enough words into the document that you reach the total wordcount and validate that. It's actually completely within the rules to do that (a lot of handwriters will validate with an old novel so they don't have to type up all 50k if they don't have time. They still wrote the words, so it still counts).

  2. another way is to email yourself the first part of your novel...then copy and paste it into a new document on the new computer...you can then continue... 9000 words behind is far less than my 16000 or so. You can do this! Just keep trying. Good luck with your novel.
